BRENTFORD boss Uwe Rosler has warned his side must be on their guard when they kick-off their League One campaign at Port Vale on Saturday.

The Valiants clinched automatic promotion last season and boast goal-machines Tom Pope and Gavin Tomlin in attack, who smashed almost 50 between them.

Brentford have enjoyed an impressive pre-season campaign, but Rosler has warned their good form counts for nothing when they visit Vale Park at the weekend.

He said: “If I had a choice I wouldn't have chosen Port Vale for the first game, but we don't, so we've got to go there and get a result.

“They will play in a different style to Cardiff but are a threat. They have goals in them, they're physical and know what they're doing.

“They have Tomlin and Pope up front. Tomlin caused us problems last year at Southend, so we've got to be on guard and on top form to get a result.”
