MARCEL Eger left Brentford as Uwe Rosler could not guarantee him games next season, according to the Bees boss.

The German defender was one of Rosler's first signings last summer when he joined from St Pauli, and was a regular in the side early on in the campaign.

However, even with Karleigh Osborne leaving, the permanent signing of fellow centre-back Harlee Dean spelt the end for Eger, who left the club last week.

Rosler said: “We could not guarantee Marcel that he would play the same number of games this season as he did last season, and an experienced player like him needs to play lots of games.

“He played a crucial part for us last season, keeping 11 clean sheets in 20 games, but he needed time to adapt to English football.

“He then got injured, and with Harlee Dean playing so well he went back down the queue. But we sat down and talked about it like professionals and decided what was best for him.”
