ANDY Scott was delighted with the way his new formation worked in Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw at Colchester .

The Brentford boss drafted David Hunt into midfield for his first start since Boxing Day’s 1-0 win at Gillingham, and moved Kevin O’Connor to right-back.

Hunt played a stormer, scoring one and setting up another, and was unlucky to net an own-goal, while O’Connor did not put a foot wrong in a position he has not played for about three years.

Scott said: "I changed the formation and it worked a treat. I felt we needed to give what was a very inexperienced centre of defence a bit of protection.

"At Stockport on Saturday, Jabo Ibhere caused them a lot of problems, and we knew Clive Platt, who is a similar sort of player, would do the same.

"So Hunt came in to sit deep and give the back four some protection, which he did superbly, while Kevin did a brilliant job at right-back."

As much as he was delighted with Charlie MacDonald’s wonder-goal which put Brentford 3-2 up after half-time, Scott was fuming with Colchester’s second goal, deep into first-half injury time.

He said: "It was a great move for Charlie’s goal. Toumani Diagouraga has been doing that for a few games now, delaying his pass for half a second or so more than defenders think he will.

"But I can’t see where the ref got the time from for their second goal. It was supposed to be two added minutes at the end of the half, and after two minutes were up he let them take two more corners.

"It was a good point for us in the end, but having been leading three times, its disappointing not to have come away with the win."
