Harrow Weald boxer Mitchell Smith is aiming to win the English title in style when he faces fellow unbeaten prospect Peter Cope on a title-packed card at the York Hall on July 16.

Smith faces the Hartlepool hopeful for the vacant English super-featherweight strap at the historic east London venue where he defeated previously unbeaten Welsh champion Mark Evans by second-round knockout in February.

And the 'Baby Faced Assassin' is intent on demonstrating he is one of the best super-featherweights in Europe with another emphatic display against 23-year-old southpaw Cope.

"He's unbeaten like me with just one more fight on his record, but this sport is about levels and I'm levels above him," Smith told Get West London. “If I'm struggling to beat a guy like this then I should pack up and take up fishing as a career!

"I respect him and of course will prepare thoroughly for him, but I'll be looking to blast him out early and make another big statement for myself.

"I think that I'm still on course for the British title this year, I believe that I can beat anybody in Britain and Europe at the weight right now.

"As the fights and opponents get better, you'll see Mitchell Smith getting better and better each time."

The contest against Cope was originally scheduled for April but Southern Area champion Smith was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old revealed he is now back to full fitness and cannot wait to return to action next month.

"The injury did put me behind my schedule and it was frustrating as I've only had one fight this year which was a two-round demolition job on Mark Evans so I'm desperate to get back into the ring again," Smith said.

"Because of the wear and tear of training and fighting, unfortunately these injuries do happen as you put your body through hell, but I'm 100 per cent fit again and looking forward to knocking out Peter Cope."

The York Hall show features Enfield’s Frank Buglioini taking on Titchfield’s Sam Couzens for the vacant Southern Area super-middleweight title.

WBA intercontinental welterweight champion Bradley Skeete is also in action in a ten-round contest while Lewis Pettitt makes the first defence of his WBA International title.

A packed undercard also includes Wembley Light-Middleweight Gary Corcoran, Chingford super-middleweight Tom Baker and Islington welterweight Georgie Kean.
