Chelsea heavyweight Ali Adams put a bit of his infamous past behind him when he easily outpointed Larry Olubamiwo on Saturday.

It was his first bout in two years since being banned for using stanazolol - the same steroid for which former Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson tested positive at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.

The irony of Adams’ bout at York Hall, Bethnal Green, where he won every round of six, was the bloke in the other corner also served a ban for using 13 illegal substances.

Olubamiwo, not so much floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee, but sang like a canary when the Hackney based boxer testified against another boxer and got his sentence reduced from four years to one.

Both battlers were deducted a point for holding in the third round of six, and Adams’s victory came with repentance.

He tested positive after fighting former Olympic champion Audley Harrison in May 2012 and protested he used the substance to treat a neck injury.

“No one’s perfect and anyone can make a mistake,” he added.

But the 34-year-old with a 14-4-1 record then revealed he has been studying over the last two years of inactivity and wants to go to university to study Physical Education.

He added: “I still have plenty to offer in many ways.”

Hectic: Sohail Ahmad

Meanwhile, down the road in West Brompton Sohail Ahmad plans a busy 2015 that gets him closer to a title shot.

The unbeaten light-welterweight with 5-0-0 perfect record already has two fight dates booked in March 2015.

Ahmad, originally from Afghanistan, fights on March 7 at his regular York Hall haunt, then on March 28 will head to Portsmouth to compete in his seventh professional contest since starting his journey against Kristian Laight in June 2013.

The boxer known as Showstar, stated, “Got one in the York Hall and the second is taking me out of my comfort zone in Portsmouth.

“We’re looking at three more fights of six-rounders and then we’ll get a shot at a title and then I’ll go for the Southern Area. We are also in talks with people from Dubai in a televised show for a Pan-Asia WBC title or something similar, if it’s vacant then we can go for that.”
