A SERIES of training ground talks with Uwe Rosler made Mike Grella into the four-goal hero who knocked Bournemouth out of the JPT on Tuesday night.
The American striker has had to make do with bit-part pieces off the bench since joining Brentford from Leeds United in August.
But handed his first full start against Bournemouth, Grella paid back Bees boss Rosler in some style with four stylish strikes in the 6-0 romp.
Rosler said: “When Mike came to us, he was struggling with what we wanted from our strikers. It took him longer than expected, and it took a lot of talks on the training ground.
“He realised what we were after and put in a lot of hard work in training and in development squad games, and these last few weeks, I felt he was ready. He did well against Chesterfield, but Sheffield Wednesday was a different sort of game.
“Mike's still doing his tricks, but he's now making runs into the right areas, bringing others into the game, playing it shorter and releasing the ball quickly.
“He still wants the ball to his feet, but he knows he has to make the runs and make the space, and he's more dynamic now.
“But the most important thing is for a striker to score goals, so I am very happy with him. However, there was also great service to him, it was a great team performance.”
