TERRY Brown admits he could use the AFC Wimbledon captaincy as a sweetener to attract new signings.

The Dons boss is currently looking for a new skipper after releasing Jamie Stuart and Gareth Gwillim as part of his 14-man cull at Kingsmeadow.

Towering centre-back Mat Mitchel-King (pictured) has been earmarked as a potential candidate for the vacant role, while Sammy Moore would be a popular choice.

But Brown will not be rushed into making a decision and is keeping his options open for now as he may need to use the armband as a bartering tool in transfer negotiations.

He said: “We’re very aware that we’ve lost two of our leaders out of the dressing room. The recruitment is about getting another leader in. Mat Mitchel-king is a prime candidate for the role but I wanted to leave the captaincy up my sleeve a little bit

“Sometimes you can be touch and go in negotiations with a player and if he’s a leader and he really wants it it’s nice to think to yourself: ‘I don’t need to shut any doors just yet’. We’re leaving it open because it may well become an attractive offer to someone.
