IAN Crane believes he has pulled off a transfer coup after capturing the signature of Wealdstone defender James Hammond.
Hammond has been a regular at Grosvenor Vale for the past two seasons and was part of the Stones squad that reached the FA Trophy semi-finals last term.
But the 21-year-old has not been getting games under Gordon Bartlett this term and the Wealdstone chief has agreed to loan him to Crane’s AFC Hayes.
“I know James hasn’t been getting games down there so they have agreed to loan him to us,” said boss Crane.
“It’s a good signing for us. He has been a regular there for the past two seasons so it is a bit of a coup for us.
“He’s not getting games there so he spoke to one of our players and spoke to Gordon and they gave me a ring and confirmed it was all okay.
“They’re not in a rush to get him back, but if they need him due to injuries then he is available to return.”
Hammond joins an AFC Hayes side in good form, Crane’s boys picking up another three points against Ashford Town on Saturday.
