NAS Bashir says his Hayes and Yeading shake-up had to be done urgently for the club's hopes of surviving the drop.
The Hayes and Yeading boss released a trio of players after Saturday's 6-2 FA Cup thrashing at the hands of Cambridge United with Diak John, Hector Mackie and Harrison Bayley all shown the door.
Bashir has been working on bringing in new players all week and a full-back is a priority to fill the voids left by John and Bayley after United swooped for Barnet striker Lloyd Owusu.
Bashir admitted it had been a tough decision to get rid of players, but he had to do it for the good of the club with Hayes and Yeading currently 20th in Blue Square Premier.
"It is never an easy job," he said. "But they have to be honest with themselves and I have given everyone a fair chance. "We have a lot of inexperienced players in the team and it is down to me to change things. We cannot carry on like we have been playing lately.
"A lot of the other teams in this league have more experience, they are full-time and are stronger both physically and mentally. Our boys are learning from game to game, but they need to learn quickly and one or two of them have not.
"Looking at Cambridge, it was men against boys at times. Our team is young, but what you cannot afford to do in this league is have too many young players at one time.
"We need to bring in three or four players to give us a boost and push us up the table. That is where we are at the moment but we have to work within our means. Myself and the staff have to put our heads together and look forward to Stockport on Saturday with a fresh attitude to help us move forward."
One of the new names will not be Brentford left-back Ryan Blake, who Hayes and Yeading recently watched, as he has signed for Farnborough on loan.
The one shining light to come out of the gloom of Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round drubbing was the substitute appearance of Elliott Legg.
Right-back Legg became Hayes and Yeading's youngest player since the club's formation in 2007 as he was just 16 years and 133 days when he made his first appearance - breaking the previous record of Josh Andrew, who was 17 years and 72 days.
Skipper Mark Bentley will be back for Saturday's trip to Stockport after suspension, along with goalkeeper Steve Arnold, who was prevented from playing in the FA Cup tie against Cambridge by his parent club Wycombe Wanderers.
