CHAIRMAN Steve McPherson is hoping new manager Darren Powell's contacts in the pro game will help Hampton & Richmond Borough get some young Football League talent on board.
Powell was yesterday named as joint-manager at Beveree along with Paul Barry, the duo having overseen the last eight games since Mark Haper's departure.
Powell is in his second spell at Hampton, sandwiched by a pro career at Brentford, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Derby, West Ham and MK Dons.
McPherson said: “Hopefully Darren will use his contacts in the pro game to get some young talent in on loan. We would expect the current squad to stick around, but that's up to Darren and Paul.
“We expect Darren to carry on playing too, but again, that will be his decision. We will also be bringing in someone to work alongside them in a development role.
“We had 25 applicants, which was whittled down to two or three, but we felt Darren and Paul have done very well with a squad which was already very tired and playing up to three times a week.”
Following Thursday night's comeback against Canvey Island in the pair's first full game in charge, Powell and Barry have overseen two wins, three draws and three defeats in eight games.
Having beaten promotion-chasing Wealdstone last Thursday, they lost 2-0 to relegation-threatened Cray Wanderers on Saturday, and see out the season at home to Bognor Regis tomorrow.
