CHELSEA are making contingency plans for the possible absences of David Luiz and Gary Cahill from next Saturday’s Champions League final.

The defensive duo have been ruled out of today’s final Premier League fixture with Blackburn Rovers and face a race to be fit for the clash with Bayern Munich next Saturday.

Skipper John Terry and the versatile Branislav Ivanovic are both suspended for the game at the Allianz Arena, leaving Roberto Di Matteo with a defensive problem to solve.

The interim Blues boss admits the potential loss of the duo would give him a selection headache but is already putting plans in place for their absences from the Chelsea backline.

“That [the loss of Cahill and Luiz] would be a big problem,” admitted Di Matteo. “We are practising different solutions just in case [they are not fit]. At the moment we have the other two centre-halves [Terry and Ivanovic] training but we are trying different solutions.

"We are obviously working our hardest towards next Saturday. We hope to have the whole group training next week. They [Cahill and Luiz] are at similar stages. In the last couple of days [before the final] we will see what kind of level they have reached."
