EALING Swimming Club will boast 17 swimmers competing in 39 individual events at this year’s British Gas National Championships.

A further 10 swimmers will also join the group at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, as part of the 13 relay teams that have qualified for the championships.

This is the largest group of swimmers Ealing has had for many years and is also the largest from any London club.

The Age Group Championships, taking place from July 24 to 28, will see the following swimmers competing in individual events: Paige Powell, 13, 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle; Maisie Jameson, 14, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, Lucy Thornton, 14, 100m and 200m butterfly; Jahrel Murphy, 13, 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m backstroke, 200m IM; Oscar Jameson, 12, 100m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke; Ben Hooper, 12, 100m and 200m butterfly; and Daniel Brennand, 14, 100m backstroke.

These swimmers will be joined by Isabel Barnes, 14, Olivia Wong, 14, Miles Clark, 13, Rayan Alhejazi, 13, Joe Kelly, 14, and Reef Hook, 13 for the relays, with Ealing having qualified for the 4x100m freestyle, 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley in both the boys’ and girls’ events.

The Youth Championships will take place from July 31 to August 4 and Erin Nabney, 15, who is part of the British squad currently at the European Junior Championships, has a packed schedule as she is competing in seven events – the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle, the 200m and 400m medley and the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

In the boys’ events, Ealing have Callum Barrett, 18, 100m and 200m backstroke; Cristian Rotundu, 18, 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke; Ben Levart, 16, 200m and 400m freestyle; Adam Plavsic, 16, 200m breaststroke; Ziggy Franchi-Webster, 15, 50m freestyle; Ade Coker, 17, 100m backstroke; Sid Howes, 18, 200m butterfly; Melako Coker, 19, 100m and 200m freestyle; and Felix Samuels, 20, 50m and 100m freestyle.

In the relays, Ealing have both A and B teams in the men’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle, and A teams in the men’s 4x100m medley, women’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle. Kerry-Anne McFarlane, 15, Sofia Tedeschi-Atkins, 15. Bethan Hall-Jones, 16, and Joseph Sheehan, 16 will be joining the team for the relays.

Two of Ealing’s senior international swimmers will not be making the trip to Sheffield as they will both be competing in the World Championships in Barcelona.

Katerina Avramova and Joao Matias will be representing their native Bulgaria and Angola respectively.

Avramova will swim the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, while Matias will line up in the 50m and 100m butterfly.
