LUPTON Bowls Club held a highly successful open day recently, at which would-be players of all ages got the chance to try their hand at an inexpensive sport enjoyed by people of all ages.

The club provided all the equipment and there was free tuition from coach Brian Cannon, who is club vice president.

Brothers Ryan and Aaron Rhodes, eight and 11, were among the younger players who came along and, at the other end of the age spectrum, Stella Baum, 91, also came to try out the game for the first time.

The club, founded in 1932, situated in Arnold House School playing field, is opposite the entrance to Canons park Station car park in Donnefield Avenue, Edgware.

New members are always welcome, both experienced and beginners, and coaching is available free.

There is bowling throughout the week with a club night starting at 6pm on Friday.

Beginners only need a pair of flat shoes to get started.
