BRENTFORD'S promotion hopes took a blow as they slumped to defeat at Broadhall Way.

Stevenage were good value for their win, with Marcus Haber scoring the only goal of the game late in the second half.

The Bees were fortunate to make it to the half-time break goalless after a dismal display in the opening 45 minutes.

They had an early let off as former Bee Gavin Mahon headed against the post, and the woodwork came to their rescue again when Haber's thumping header rattled the crossbar.

Stevenage continued to press, with Sam Hoskins beating Simon Moore to a loose ball, but the striker failed to get enough on his effort and the chance went begging.

The Bees had keeper Moore to thank late on when he saved point-blank from Haber at the back stick.

Boss Uwe Rosler responded by hauling off Jake Bidwell and Jake Reeves, with Shaleum Logan and Harry Forrester coming on at the start of the second half.

The visitors looked more comfortable, and Clayton Donaldson saw an effort smothered by Steve Arnold after he latched onto Adam Forshaw's through-ball.

However, Stevenage broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time.

Mark Roberts' header forward caught out the Bees backline, and Haber outmuscled Harlee Dean before scrambling the ball past Moore.

The Bees pushed for an equaliser, with BradleyWright-Phillips going close, while at the other end, Moore saved from Hoskins.
