BRENTFORD'S play-off push took a blow as they were held to a frustrating draw at Griffin Park .

Clayton Donaldson missed the best chance to win it for the Bees when he was denied by Jimmy Walker midway through the second-half.

Walsall had Walker – making a record 530 th appearance for the visitors – to thank early on when he parried Marcus Bean's fizzing drive, while Sam Saunders was also denied by the veteran keeper.

Jamie Paterson fired an effort over for the Saddlers, but the Bees were unfortunate not to take the lead when Donaldson's effort was cleared off the line.

However, Jon Mackie almost broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage-time, only to be denied by a fine fingertip save from Simon Moore .

Brentford made most of the running after the break. Stand-in skipper Jonathan Douglas saw a shot deflected over, while Donaldson's effort was smothered by the onrushing Walker.

Alex Nicholls fluffed a chance to win it for Walsall late on as honours ended even.

BEES: Moore, Bennett, Legge, Eger, Bidwell, Saunders, Bean (Diagouraga 64), Douglas, Forrester (McGinn 82), Alexander, Donaldson (Weston 74).

Subs (not used): Dean, Logan.
