BRENTFORD are closing in on the double signing of Walsall’s Will Grigg and Swindon Town’s Darren Ward, the Chronicle understands.

The duo impressed in League One last season and Bees manager Uwe Rosler is looking to strengthen ahead of another promotion push next term.

Striker Grigg, whose contract expires this summer, banged in 19 goals for the Saddlers in 2012-13 and attracted interest from Premier League outfit Aston Villa .

He is expected be joined at Griffin Park by no-nonsense centre-back Ward, who moved to Swindon on loan from Millwall last season before making the move permanent in January.

The 34-year-old began his career at Watford and has gone on to represent the likes over Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace and Wolves.

Grigg and Ward could join up with the rest of the Brentford squad for the start of pre-season training this week.
