BRENTFORD are closing in on the signing of Swindon Town skipper Alan McCormack .

The 29-year-old is set to leave the County Ground after failing to agree a new deal, with the Bees poised to snatch the Irishman off their League One rivals on a free transfer.

McCormack, who can play in defence or midfield, came through the ranks at Preston before spells at Leyton Orient, Southend, Motherwell, Charlton and then Swindon, clocking up more than 350 appearances.

The Dubliner, who is on holiday in America, held talks with Brentford chiefs last week, with the deal expected to go through in the next 24 hours.
