BRENTFORD boss Uwe Rosler heaped praise on Farid El Alagui after the striker came off the bench to send them through to round two with a dramatic late winner against Dagenham.

The former Falkirk frontman missed more than six months of last season with a serious knee injury, but was back among the goals with a well-taken brace to earn them a 3-2 victory in the Capital One Cup at Griffin Park.

And Rosler paid tribute to the Moroccan afterwards.

He said: “Farid deserves special praise after what he went through last season with injury.

“It was a long road to recovery for him. He came back towards the end of the campaign but missed out at Wembley as there were three other strikers ahead of him.

“He was naturally disappointed but he never gave up. He got another knock during pre-season too, which has slowed him down.

“It was fantastic to see him back in action and the goals will do his confidence the world of good.

“We will give him more minutes to get him back to the level he was at before he was injured.”

The Bees came from behind to edge a five-goal thriller against their League Two opponents, despite making 10 changes from the side that drew at Port Vale on Saturday.

Rosler added: “I'm very pleased with the character we showed.

“We came back from 1-0 down, and even though we were pegged back at 2-2, we never gave up.

“Our determination and fitness saw us through in the end.”
