WEALDSTONE will welcome prodigal son Jermaine Beckford back to the club tonight when they take on his Leeds United side at Grosvenor Vale (7.45pm kick off).

The match is part of the initial £45,000 deal which took the prolific striker to Elland Road in 2006 , with the 25-year-old expected to spearhead the attack with Tresor Kandol.

And Beckford, who recently came off the transfer list just two months after rejecting a new contract, is guaranteed a hero's welcome from the Stones faithful at a throbbing Vale tonight.

"I think Jermaine will come back here in a very relaxed mood," said Stones boss Gordon Bartlett. "You never know what you are going to get with Jermaine - we never knew what we were going to get from him when he was here!

"But he has done absolutely fantastic since he left and we are very grateful to Leeds for bringing down a very strong side."

The Ryman Premier League club has kept a close eye on Beckford, who has been a target for several Premiership and Championship clubs. They stand to receive a tidy sum should Leeds receive an offer they simply cannot refuse.

"Once tonight is over I hope he is sold tomorrow," joked Bartlett, who knows any sale of Beckford will bolster his player budget.

Supporters are advised to arrive early to avoid congestion as a crowd in excess of 1,000 is expected.
