FULHAM'S second string conceded an extra-time winner as they bowed out of the Carling Cup at Manchester City.

With penalties looming, the visitors needlessly gave away a corner when Chris Baird was caught in possession.

And they were punished when Kolo Toure rose highest to land the decisive blow to send Mark Hughes' men through.

Whites boss Roy Hodgson changed the entire side that lost at Wolves on Sunday, and their replacements were soon on the back foot at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Gareth Barry headed straight at David Stockdale on 10 minutes, while Shaun Wright-Phillips blazed over early on.

But it was Fulham who took the lead against the run of play just after the half-hour mark with their first real attack, with Zoltan Gera smashing home an unstoppable 25-yard volley that gave Shay Given no chance.

City hit back, only a last-ditch block by Chris Smalling stopped Carlos Tevez's goal-bound effort, while Wright-Phillips stung the hands of Stockdale from long range.

However, the hosts did level five minutes after the restart when Craig Bellamy's deep corner was met by Barry to head home.

City applied most of the pressure after that, but Fulham came closest to bagging a second when Seol Ki-Hyeon's bouncing volley was turned round the post by Given as the game headed for extra time.

Bellamy blasted one over the top early into the added 30, then saw a shot palmed away by Stockdale, only for Tevez to head the rebound high and wide.

Fulham went close when Bjorn Riise's curling effort when agonisingly wide of the post, but the hosts snatched it 10 minutes from time through Toure's header.
