TOM COLLINS has been axed from the Hayes & Yeading squad for his poor performance against Grimsby Town last week.

United’s top scorer has been missing from the squad for the club’s last two games but is fully fit and available for selection.

However, boss Nas Bashir has revealed the striker was omitted from the squad as a punishment for his below-par showing in the defeat to the Mariners last Tuesday.

Bashir said: “Tom has been a little bit unfortunate. His last performance for us was very poor and I can only play people on the back of how they performed in their last game. He’s got to understand, he’s a young player, but he’s got to put in a shift when he’s on the pitch and put in a performance.

“Of late, the lads who have played instead of him [Aiden O’Brien and Danny Wishart] have certainly done that. The only thing that has been missing has been putting the ball in the back of the net. What Tom has got to learn is it’s not all about scoring, it’s also about his contribution to the team as a whole.”

Bashir could restore Collins to the team for United’s trip to play-off chasing Southport on Saturday, although he has a number of attacking options with the arrival of on-loan duo Piero Mingoia and Dan Evans.
