STEVE Basham's brace helped 10-man Hayes cause a massive upset at league-leaders Oxford.

The visitors got off to a dream start when Basham marked his return to the starting line-up with the opener midway through the first-half, firing home into the bottom right-hand corner from inside the box.

The Luton Town loan star doubled their lead just before the break when he headed home Adam Green's inswinging corner.

Whatever Hayes boss Garry Haylock said to his troops at half-time went out of the window when Esmond James got a straight red for a challenge on Sam Deering just two minutes in.

And it didn't take long for Oxford to make their one-man advantage show when Simon Clist pulled a goal back.

However, Haylock's men held on to claim their biggest scalp of the season.
