WEALDSTONE boss Gordon Bartlett was fearing his Macron Manager of the Month award would prove to be the kiss of death after picking up the gong for his performance at the helm in October.
The Stones won three and drew one of their four league matches last month, including stunning comebacks from 2-0 down to beat Kingstonian and Hampton and Richmond Borough, both of whom were topping the table at the time of each fixture.
Bartlett was told about his personal triumph just days before his side’s tricky trip to Cray Wanderers and the experienced Stones boss was bracing himself for a defeat following the good news.
However, Wealdstone secured a superb 3-0 away win to move them up to third in the Ryman Premier Division and Bartlett was keen to stress that recognition must be given to all of his staff for their efforts.
“I was delighted to get the award but it really isn’t just about me,” said Bartlett. “The award is for the whole management team because it is a team effort.
“Traditionally, getting manager of the month is the kiss of death so I was expecting us to slip up on Saturday. I haven’t won the award for a while but it is a regular occurrence for the winner to lose their next game so I was half-expecting that. I’m glad the curse didn’t strike.”
Bartlett will be looking for his team’s fine run of recent form continues when they entertain Blue Square North outfit Corby Town at The Vale on Saturday in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.
