LLOYD OWUSU says he is determined to prove a point at Hayes and Yeading after a frustrating spell of warming the bench at Barnet.

The 34-year-old, who made his debut in Saturday's 3-3 draw at Stockport County after signing a one-month loan deal, says he is hungry to show he can still score goals after being left out by Bees boss Lawrie Sanchez.

"It is an opportunity now for me to get some games as I am 34 now and I need regular football," said Owusu. "I have been on the bench waiting for my chance to come (at Barnet). No direspect to them, but the team has been losing and I have not been getting a chance. It is the gaffer's decision.

"I have always believed in myself and I am always hungry to score goals. If I am injury-free, then I am confident that I can score goals."

Owusu has struck over 150 of them in his senior career, including 79 goals in two spells at Brentford, and he came close to opening his account in Saturday's six-goal thriller that cost Didi Hamann his County job.

The Ghanaian international's move came about after a chance conversation with Delroy Preddie, who is currently a goalkeeper and coach at Hayes and Yeading, and he believes he can help the club improve on its 21st position in the

Blue Square Premier table.

"I have known Nas Bashir (Hayes and Yeading manager) from when I was at Reading and he was a youth team coach and I knew he was looking for a striker," Owusu added. "I am good friends with Delroy, we were having the usual chit-chat and he said the club wanted a striker.

"We did well on Saturday as we could have been 4-0 up early on and we showed character to come back in the end. It was good for me to get a run out and I had a couple cleared off the line. Hopefully in the next four games I can get some goals."
