FELIX Maisey-Curtis bounced back from a year of injury hell to claim a medal at the Sainsbury’s National Indoor Championships on Saturday.

The Harrow Athletics club man missed almost all of the 2013 season with hamstring problems but bounced back with a personal best jump of 7.63m to claim bronze in bronze at the championships in Sheffield.

The record leap was part of an impressive series for the former Buckinghamshire County Champion, who also recorded leaps of 7.47m, 7.52m and 7.59m.

It is the latest landmark in the career of the 22-year-old who became the first long jump record holder for London’s Olympic Park when leaping 7:38 to win the British Universities Championship in May, 2012.

There was very nearly a second medal for a harrow AC athlete as Marilyn Nwawulor came within a whisker of bronze in the 60m hurdles.

Nwawulor clocked 8.35 seconds to finish fourth, missing out by just 0.1 seconds.

She would also narrowly miss out on a place in the 60m flat final after failing to beat her heat time of 7.52 in her semi-final and club-mate Laura Turner-Alleyne also fell just short of a final berth after clocking times of 7.56 and 7.55 respectively.

Harrow’s Luke Roach-Christie finished eighth in the shot final in what was his first competitive outing of the winter.

Meanwhile, Tony Daffurn set a new personal best of exactly 15 metres in the triple jump at a competition in Scotland.

Back nearer home Harrow concluded their Chiltern Cross-Country season with some award-winning performances at a wet and windy Campbell Park in Milton Keynes.

In the senior men’s event Chris Finill defied a nagging leg injury to finish 72nd overall and take the gold medal as the first over-50.

Alan Wray shook off the effects of a recent illness to claim 15th for the bronze medal in the over 40s age category.

Matt Carey produced a great final lap to finish sixth on the day and with Jim Cooper 13th and second over 40 runner home it meant Harrow’s men took the overall bronze medal for the season.

Marella Whitfield was a superb second in the U15 race to claim the overall silver medal for the season, while Ellen Rose’s 13th spot in the U20 race saw her take the bronze medal for the campaign as a whole.
