The title of the race was the Middlesex Young Athletes Road Relays - but it soon became an all west London affair for the U17 girls.

Ealing Southall & Middlesex AC went head to head with Thames Valley Harriers from down the road in East Acton, with both clubs leading the rest.

Valley won the U15 race with Charlotte Buckley running the fastest leg of the day to bring the sky blue vests home, and ES&M were fifth, but it was a different affair in the U17s.

Ealing U17 Nicola Ravenhill led out over the 3k course at Minet Park, Hayes, returning with nearly half a minute over the rest of.

Laura Stewart ran a swift second leg but was up against India Weir of TVH, who ran the fastest lap of the day, and the team slipped to second. On anchor leg, Erica Wallace was unable to close on Kosana Weir, the fastest runner in the race after her twin sister. With Harrow already a distant third, Wallace had only to run a solid leg to secure silver.

Newcomer Zoe Crown produced a very useful second leg in the U15 girls’ B team.

Ealing U15 boys were third, with the three team members running almost identical times.

Shaftesbury Barnet were never headed, but the race was a less clear-cut affair further down the field.

With most teams opting to put their fastest runner on leg one, Patrick Owen could only finish fifth. Ilyes Iman was then the quickest second leg of the race, bringing them up to third. At this point, they were only a second ahead of Highgate, but Naoki Kanai was able to open out a 20-second lead.

In the individual 1500m races for U11s, Ealing handed a debut to nine-year-old Ashana McClunie, nine. In the boys’ race, Najiib Hersi placed seventh, while newcomer Finn Combe was just three seconds behind in ninth.
