Brunel student Jessica Andrews has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Cross-Country Championships on Saturday in Belgrade following an impressive performance at the UK trials last month.

Andrews, coached by long-distance specialist Mick Woods, will travel with the rest  of the GB squad to Serbia next week to compete against the strongest runners from around Europe, and is in buoyant mood ahead of the trip:

She said: “This was the day that I have been training for the last few years and I did it, I have  qualified for the European Cross-Country Championships. I am absolutely over the moon.”

Andrews, who hails from the Isle of Wight, is a first year sports science student at Brunel, for whom she will also compete at the British Universities Cross-Country Championships in February.

She will be looking for a good performance at both competitions to strengthen her chances of being selected for the GB team that will travel to the World Student Cross-Country Championships in Uganda next year.
