Harrow Athletic Club's Dave Bran-foot showed a clean pair of heels to his opponents with a superb victory in the Liddiard Trophy cross-country at Fryent Country Park, Kingsbury on Saturday, writes Tony Bush.

The army sergeant made the 100 strong field march to his tune as he dominated the race from start to finish, clocking a fast 24.58 for the meaured five miles of undulating grassland.

He led a phalanx of Harrow athletes as Peter Norris, veteran Julian Critchlow and Damian Nevins filled the next three places.

Harrow could not maintain its dominance as stomach problems forced Matt Carey to drop out and skipper Mo Rahim was reduced to a spectator's role by a serious ankle injury.

Terry McIntyre continued his excellent year to place 39th with long-serving Mike Lepps in 47th spot.

Kevin Concannon finished 57th, just two places ahead of Mike Kelly, as Harrow placed third in the team event behind Hillingdon and winners Ealing.

Harrow's teams take part in the National Cross-country relays in Mans-field this weekend.

As for Queens Park, new member Jerell El-Bahraoi was the first Harrier home with a 12th place finish (27.09). Brendan Greene came in 17th (27.49) while Michael Dmitrzak's time of 28.59 earned him 31st.

In the ladies race Mary Nolan was 17th in 22.44s and Jenny Akhurst was 22nd with a time of 24.29
