AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley is satisfied to have taken a point against Plymouth in what he saw as his team’s toughest test in recent weeks.

The Dons have faced Capital One Cup finalists Bradford City and play-off chasing Northampton in a tricky string of fixtures in the lead up to last night’s 1-1 draw.

However, Ardley reckons that the visit of fellow strugglers Plymouth was the most difficult of the lot and was happy to grab a share of the spoils in the relegation scrap.

“I thought they were really brave with their team selection,” Ardley said. “They tried to hit us on the break and they caused us problems in the first-half. I thought we were at our most vulnerable when going forward. We got to grips with it in the second-half.

“It was important that we got that goal back straight away and credit to the boys for that. I always felt this was going to be the toughest game of the last few weeks. I know people will think that we’re higher than them and should win at home but it was always going to be a tough one. It was good that we didn’t lose.”

“There were a lot of boys out there that looked tired and that the games had just caught up with them a bit. We’ve got to try and freshen them up again now. I felt we didn’t have quite the edge tonight and we had to dig in on a bobbly pitch. I’ll take a point.”

Ardley will be hoping to go one better and pick up the win on Saturday as he takes his Wimbledon players to Cheltenham.
