MIDDLESEX director of cricket Angus Fraser has heaped praise on batsman Sam Robson following his impressive form so far this season.
Fraser was speaking after a first class personal best of 215 not out helped Robson win the April/May 2013 Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award.
“Sam has had an outstanding start to the season, said Fraser. "As a cricketer he continues to grow and we all hope he maintains this form for the remainder of the summer.”
Robson opened his 2013 batting account with back to back half centuries - scoring 76 and 55 not out in Middlesex’s opening Championship fixture at Trent Bridge - and has not looked back since.
He followed that up with a third consecutive half century in the Seaxes' first innings against Derbyshire while his first century of the season came in Middlesex’s very next Championship game, a knock of 129 against Surrey.
Then came the moment when Robson broke his personal best score with his unbeaten 215 at Edgbaston against Warwickshire surpassing his previous first class best of 204, which he set in 2010 against Oxford MCCU.
Further knocks of 42 and 24 not out against Somerset and another half-century in the current Championship match against Sussex have seen Robson continue his fantastic form.
Robson was presented with the accolade on Tuesday during the interval of Middlesex's Yorkshire Bank 40 four-wicket victory against Somerset at Lord’s when he accepted a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of champagne, courtesy of Brooks Macdonald.
