ALAN Bennett fears he may have severely damaged his Brentford future after a nightmare return to Griffin Park.

The Bees defender played five times for Wycombe before being recalled as cover by Andy Scott .

But his return was marred after he came on as a half-time substitute at Brighton before two bookings in the final minutes completed a disastrous return, and he was blasted by his boss in the post-match press conference.

The Irish centre-back served a one-game ban before being benched in the 3-3 draw at Colchester on Tuesday.

Bennett's whirlwind fortnight ended with him re-signing for Blues until the end of the season on Friday, and he admitted his short return to Brentford may have caused more damage to his future at the club, where he still has a year to run on his contract.

He said: “It has been that kind of season for me really and I think I may have made a bad situation worse.

“My future at Brentford is a bit up in the air really and I am not sure what will happen. I just want to be involved somewhere and the gaffer [Gary Waddock] was really keen to sign me so I am happy to be back."
