CHARLIE Wassmer is attracting interest from AFC Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old defender is a free agent this summer and the Dons are short of centre-backs following the departures of Pim Balkestein and Mat Mitchel-King.

Wassmer ended the season at Cambridge United after being released from his contract by League One outfit Crawley Town in December.

He made a big impression in 17 appearances at the Abbey Stadium and has caught the eye of Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley.

But Dons will have to battle it out with several other clubs, including Dagenham & Redbridge, who are also interested in signing the defender.

Wassmer started his career at Hayes & Yeading United and made his debut in April 2010.
