DEFENDING champion Andy Murray crashed out of the AEGON Championships in the second round after suffering a shock defeat to Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.

The British No.1 and top seed was slow out of the blocks and quickly lost the first set 6-3 before battling back to take the second on a tie-break.

And despite breaking the world No.65 at the beginning of the third, Mahut broke back immediately before holding his nerve to edge it 7-6 in the final set.

Murray wasn't the only seed to fall on day three at Queen's, with Andy Roddick and Marco Baghdatis also dumped out.

The big-serving American lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to Edouard Roger-Vasselin, while 11 th seed Baghdatis was beaten in three sets by Lukas Rosol.

However, second seed Jo-Wilfred Tsonga is safely through after seeing off the challenge of Britain's Jamie Baker, winning 6-3, 6-2.
