Defending champion Andy Murray crashed out of the Aegon Championships after suffering a straight-sets defeat to Radek Stepanek.

The Brit was beaten 7-6, 6-2 by the Czech, who set up a quarter-final clash with Kevin Anderson.

Murray traded breaks with Stepanek early on, but the opening set was decided by a tie-break. Murray squandered a series of chances to win it, only for the 15th seed to take it with his first opportunity.

The Wimbledon champion was clearly reeling, with Stepanek cruising through the second set to seal his place in the last eight.

He will face South African Anderson, who beat Sergiy Stakhovsky in three sets.

Top seed Stan Wawrinka had no problems disposing of 2010 winner Sam Querrey, while Tomas Berdych had a slightly tougher time before coming through a tight match with Adrian Mannarino 7-6, 6-4.

He will meet Feliciano Lopez for a place in the semi-finals after the Spaniard saw off Kenny De Schepper.

Murray wasn't the only casualty, however, as Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost in straight sets to Marinko Matosevic.
