MIDDLESEX COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

Wembley 245-8 (55 overs)

Acton 186-9 (45 overs)

Match drawn

HANNIDGE Soysa’s century helped Acton escape with a draw at Wembley on Saturday but it was a close run thing.

They were nine down by close of play, having been put under pressure by Vinal Arjan’s 4-56 for the home side.

Alex Brennan took 4-53 for the Park Club side, but Wembley batsmen Mohammed Rizvi, out for 96 when Brennan trapped him lbw, and Michell Fry (51) made hay in the sunshine to put Acton on the back foot.

Opener Soysa was eventually out for 107 – his 99-ball innings including 15 boundaries, two of them sixes.

It may only have been a point in the end, but at least it keeps them in equal third place with Highgate on 40 points at the halfway stage of the season. Kenton and Enfield lead the way, 15 and 13 points ahead.

Acton host Highgate tomorrow (Saturday).

Acton’s second XI (175 all out from 50 overs) beat Eastcote (144 all out in 41.3) by 31 runs to stay third in the second team championship. Dan Waddell top scored with 64, while Eastcote’s Sohail Pandya took 6-54.

But Keith Hunt was the real match-winner, taking 6-37 to edge Acton to their third win of the campaign.

No such luck for the third team, though. All out for 148 in 37.3 overs at home to South Hampstead (181 all out in 47), they lost by 33 runs.
