NEW Hillingdon Borough manager Rob Burton was looking forward to taking on someone more his ownsize after two eye-catching fixtures inside four days.

Last Wednesday a much-changed Boro side shipped three goals before half-time against Coca Cola League One side Yeovil Town, who came to Middlesex Stadium as part of the deal that took Rob Fitzgerald to Somerset last season.

They hit the post twice and had another effort cleared off the line in an improved second half display against a side made up of a mixture of full-time professionals and triallists as the game ended 3-0 to the Glovers.

On Saturday Boro endured a similarly torrid first half away to Conference North outfit Kings Lynn, who roared into a 4-0 lead by the interval in front of 1,300 fans in what was their final game before their competitive season kicks off.

The full strength Linnets team struck with three superb long range efforts and a looping header but Boro, who qualified for the match against the Southern League champions by winning the Errea League Cup, could take great heart from another battling second half display.

Jay Silva, 20, worked hard to mark former Aston Villa striker Julian Joachim for 90 minutes while goalkeeper Matt Davis and midfielder Daryl King also stood out for Hillingdon.

Boro's Ryman One North rivals North-wood went down 3-1 to Stevenage Borough on Thursday in a game arranged when Elliott Buchanan moved to the Blue Square Premier club although disappointingly he was left on the bench.

Adrian Abramian gave the Woods a shock lead but following a number of substitutions by manager Colin Payne, the hosts conceded three times in the final half hour. Two days later Dwain Williams, Jack Bennett, Terry Davies (2) and Ryan Tackley netted in a 5-1 win over Harefield United, for whom Woods old boy Gary Williams replied.

Other friendly results include: Uxbridge 2 Sutton United 3; AFC Hayes 1 Harrow Borough 3; Uxbridge 0 Basingstoke Town 0.
