Division One South And Westbridgwater Town 3 Uxbridge 2

Uxbridge's desperate start to the season continued as they conceded three times in the first 47 minutes at Bridgwater Town before staging a late comeback.

Billy Reynolds and Dave Warner made it a tense final 13 minutes in Somerset by pulling back two goals, but that was as close as they got, with Dave Lawrence squandering their best chance of an unlikely equaliser with a shot that lacked both power and direction.

A fourth defeat from five league games left last year's beaten play-off finalists with just one point to their name and having slipped 12 off the pace set by Truro City, another play-off place is already looking like the best they can hope for.

Uxbridge had a great early chance to take the lead when Jon Dyer, in for Lee Tunnell, saw his shot saved by Tom Manley and Lawrence struck the rebound against the keeper when he should have done better.

Instead Mike Mackay headed the Robins in front on 13 minutes from Nat Pepperell's terrific free kick and Paul McCarthy prevented further damage with saves from Brett Trowbridge and Pete Monks, but it merely postponed the agony. Uxbridge lost possession and Bridgwater broke out with Pepperell delivering a perfect cross for Mackay to grab his second of the game.

McCarthy made a fine double save to deny Mike Taylor and Steve Orchard'sfollow-up and he held Chris Young's shot as Town threatened to go further ahead, before they did just that two minutes into the second half. Pepperell once again supplied the cross and Young fired home.

Eight minutes later Uxbridge substitute Reynolds put a bullet volley past Manley to give his side hope and later Dave Warner, who misses Saturday's FA Cup trip to Heybridge Swifts through suspension, turned and drove home a Lawrence corner to make it 3-2, but an equaliser remained out of reach.
