Hayes and Yeading United missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Chelmsford City when they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Bromley in the Blue Square Conference South last night (Tuesday).

The only goal of the game at Hayes Lane came in the 21st minute when Bromley striker Warren McBean saw his shot deflected past United keeper Delroy Preddie.

Despite this defeat United stay in second place as Maidenhead United missed the chance to go above them when they slipped up 1-0 at home to Newport County.

United still trail leaders Chelmsford, who they meet on Saturday in the FA Trophy, by five points with a game in hand.
