Brentford's move for Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan has been put on hold due to an injury crisis at the DW Stadium.

The Bees were hopeful of re-signing the 23-year-old before the weekend, but the deal is likely to be delayed for another week at least.

Kiernan is keen to return to Griffin Park, where he made nine appearances last season, and Uwe Rosler is ready to give the green light to the move once his injury worries clear up.

"I am aware of Brentford's interest," said former Bees boss Rosler when contacted by the Chronicle.

"After a successful spell at Southend, going to Brentford and an environment he knows well would be good for Rob.

"But the deal is on hold at the moment because we've got three centre-backs out, so it's very difficult to let one of our defenders leave.

"Hopefully, it can be sorted next week when our injury situation improves."
