West Ham striker target Scott Hogan has been named as a substitute for Brentford's Championship clash with Newcastle.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation over the past two weeks with the Hammers having three bids rejected for the 14-goal striker.

Dean Smith rested the frontman for the 5-1 win against Eastleigh and, after speaking with the striker on Friday, decided the best place for him was the bench.

It bears the hallmarks of when Andre Gray was a substitute for the Bees against Ipswich. The former Bees striker had been the subject of several transfer bids in the run up to the 2015/16 season opener and felt his head was not in the right place to start.

Gray came off the bench in the closing stages with the west Londoners 2-0 down and scored two goals to rescue a point for Brentford.

Brentford: Bentley, Colin, Egan, Dean, Bjelland, Field, Woods, McEachran, Yennaris, Sawyers, Vibe.

Substitutes: Bonham, Hogan, Hofmann, Kerschbaumer, Clarke, Jota, Barbet.
