Brentford boss Mark Warburton plans to give Tommy Smith another chance to stake a claim for a contract in Saturday's final pre-season friendly against Crystal Palace.
The former Watford, QPR and Cardiff forward has been training with the Bees after leaving the Bluebirds at the end of the campaign.
Smith was due to feature in Tuesday's friendly defeat against Osasuna, only for a slight calf strain to keep him out.
He said: "Tommy had a tight calf, he was desperate to play. We would like to get him involved at the weekend.
"We are talking with him. It is about making sure everything is right for all parties. The feedback is he is enjoying things with us and we'll take it from there."
