Sunderland have shown an interest in QPR striker Charlie Austin.

The former Burnley frontman smashed 20 goals in just 37 games for the Hoops last season as they clinched promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Austin still has another two years remaining on his contract and is understood to be happy at Loftus Road.

However, Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is considering a swoop for the 25-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

Austin returned to pre-season training yesterday as he looks to hit the ground running in the top-flight.

The ex-bricklayer was denied the chance to test himself at the highest level last summer when he failed a medical at Hull before his move to W12.
