Ryan Sweeney has announced his move from AFC Wimbledon to Stoke City has now been completed.
The 19-year-old underwent a medical with Mark Hughes’ side on Thursday after the two clubs agreed a fee worth a reported £250,000 for the defender.
“It is quite clear,” Dons boss Neal Ardley explained last night. “The club has come to an agreement with Stoke City.
“An offer has been accepted by us and the player has been allowed to engage in talks with another club. We will see where it goes.”
Since those comments, Sweeney has agreed personal terms and passed his City medical to finalise the transfer.
Sweeney, who made 10 appearances for the Wimbledon first-team last season, is expected to be part of the Stoke development squad.
“Delighted to have signed for Stoke City thanks for all the messages,” Sweeney wrote on his Twitter account.
“Thank you to all the fans, staff and players at AFC Wimbledon great club! Wish them all the best for the future.”
The Republic of Ireland under-18 international only signed a new contract at Wimbledon earlier this year after reported interest from West Ham and Tottenham.
