Chelsea will resist Wolfsburg’s advances for German World Cup winner Andre Schurrle this month.

The Bundesliga outfit are reportedly lining up a £23million bid to bring the forward back to his homeland.

Schurrle has suffered a mysterious illness since the summer and has struggled to regain his starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

Willian has cemented his place in Jose Mourinho’s plans and Schurrle has been restricted to just 12 appearances this term.

Wolfsburg raided the Premier League leaders last January to sign Kevin De Bruyne and want 24-year-old Schurrle to follow him to the Volkswagen Arena.

However, Chelsea remain steadfast in their approach to the January transfer window and insist no players will be arriving or leaving SW6 this winter.

“That wouldn’t be my decision,” said Blues assistant Steve Holland when he was quizzed on any potential offers for Schurrle.

“Jose has been clear that he doesn’t want anybody to leave and, presuming that is the case, then nobody will come in.

“If Jose and the club felt it was the best thing to do for the club [to sell a player] then I’m sure they would make the appropriate decision.

“I can only repeat that the hope and the expectation is that there will be no business.”

With no plans to recruit fresh blood this January, Holland also poured cold water on a mooted £500million mega-deal to sign Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Reports have linked the Blues with an eye-watering £500million move for the Argentinian following claims Messi has fallen out with Barca manager Luis Enrique.

Messi would walk into any team in world football but Holland has admitted any team would be hard-pushed to put together a financial package to lure him from the Nou Camp.

“This club conforms with financial fair play,” he continued.

“Our financial results have meant we have been able to bring in one or two players but it’s quite clear that many players have been sold to balance the books.

Happy: Andre Schurrle has said he doesn't want to leave SW6

“When you look at the numbers being mentioned around Messi, I would think it's an impossible deal for any club working within the financial fair play rules."

A rare midweek break has given Chelsea their best preparation in months for tomorrow’s visit of Newcastle United.

The Blues have come through a relentless festive fixture schedule and remain top of the Premier League on alphabetical order ahead of Manchester City.

Mourinho’s side have not played since the weekend win over Watford in the FA Cup third round to leave them focused solely on the Magpies clash.

“The tactical preparation we’ve had this week is the best it’s been for months given we’ve had a clear week to prepare so we’re in good shape,” Holland explained.

“Jose is very focused on the game tomorrow as we all are.

“It’s an important game. We lost the away game very recently against Newcastle so we’re all very determined to put that right tomorrow.

“My experience of playing against Newcastle is it’s always a hard game under any circumstances wherever you play them. We’re expecting no different tomorrow.”
