Harry Redknapp is confident of keeping Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll for the rest of the season.

The young midfielder has made 12 appearances for QPR since arriving on loan from Spurs earlier this campaign, but the Premier League club wouldn't permit him to feature in the FA Cup tie at Everton and were considering recalling the 21-year-old.

However, Redknapp is keeping his fingers crossed White Hart Lane chief Tim Sherwood will let Carroll stay at Loftus Road.

He said: "We've had no word from Tottenham about him going back, so at the moment everything is okay.

"We're hopeful. They could pick up the phone at any time, but Tim hasn't told me otherwise.

"Tom's a good footballer and it's been a learning experience for him. It's different to being at Tottenham playing in Under-21 games.

"The Championship is a lot more hurly-burly and more physical, so it's been good for him. I think he needs to play, but that's Tim's decision."
