Young starlet Tammy Abraham is on the verge of joining Newcastle United on loan from Chelsea, according to reports by the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old, who was linked with a move to QPR as well as a host of other clubs, is expected to agree to a move to St James' Park within the next 48 hours.

Abraham scored 23 goals in 41 appearances last season for Championship side Bristol City and the striker is tipped to have a big future in the game.

Such was the determination of Rafa Benitez to secure the 6ft 4in striker, the Newcastle manager made a trip to visit the prolific front-man at England's base St George's park on his wedding anniversary to convince him to make the move.

If the deal goes through, it will be Newcastle's first signing since securing their return to the Premier League.
