QPR's hopes of signing Tommie Hoban from Watford have been dashed after the Hornets defender suffered a season ending anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 23-year-old defender has had an injury hit career in recent years, failing to make a league appearance for the Hertfordshire club since helping them win promotion from the Championship in 2015.

He spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated on the final day of the campaign.

Ian Holloway had been keen to bring Hoban to Loftus Road but, after the injury, that pursuit has now ended.

Hoban wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago in training I ruptured my acl, the surgery went well and the road to recovery starts again now.

"Been one thing after another the last few years and this time it's been hard to take. But I know I'll come back from this and eventually I'll get to where I wanna be."

QPR are still on the hunt for further new faces and will now turn their attentions elsewhere.
