Petr Cech is staying at Chelsea to fight for the number one shirt with Thibaut Courtois after a quiet transfer deadline day at Stamford Bridge.

Speculation had been linking Cech with a loan move away from the Bridge this summer after losing his place to the young Belgian shot-stopper.

However, Cech took to Twitter as the deadline approached tonight to confirm he would still be a Chelsea player when the clock struck 11pm.

Cech’s continued presence in SW6 has allowed the Blues to lend Jamal Blackman to Middlesbrough until January.

Blackman signed a new five-contract at Stamford Bridge in June and was called up to the England Under 21 squad for the first time on Friday.
