Dean Smith has confirmed there has been no talk of Philipp Hofmann leaving Brentford despite him being limited to substitute appearances due to Scott Hogan.

The 23-year-old forward has not started for the Bees since their 1-0 EFL Cup defeat to Exeter in August and has made eight Championship appearances as a substitute this season.

Hofmann could be given more game time should Scott Hogan leave the club this window after interest from West Ham and Watford, but Smith has admitted the German is working hard to get in the team.

“It's another one where he's working harder to try and get into the team but there's no chat (regarding a departure) as of yet,” Smith said.

Hofmann was subbed on for John Egan late into Brentford's 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United at Griffin Park on Saturday after Smith decided to keep Hogan on the bench for the club's long-term interests.

Hogan has scored 14 goals for Brentford in his 26 appearances in all competitions this season.
