AFC Wimbledon chief Neal Ardley has poured cold water over rumours George Francomb could be heading to Swindon Town this summer.

There had been mutterings online that the former Norwich City winger was a transfer target for the Robins after a fine season in the blue and yellow.

Wimbledon took up their contractual option of keeping the midfielder for an additional year while allowing fellow wide-man Alfie Potter to leave the club on a free.

“No-one has contacted me about him,” Ardley said. “George is under contract with us.”

Francomb initially joined the Dons on a loan deal before making a return to Kingsmeadow on a permanent transfer.

He's followed the same path as Jon Meades, who re-joined the club this week after being released by Oxford , and Ardley is hoping the Welshman can make a similar impact to Francomb.

“People are always saying you should never re-sign players that were at the club before,” he added.”

“I've done it with Jon now and I have done it with George before and what it a great player he's turned out to be for us.

“I'm confident that Jon is re-signing as a better player than when he left us and he's got a better team to try and get into now.

“Jon was one of our best players before when he was first with us and that was incredible considering it was his first taste of senior football.”
